Having recently completed his PhD in Economics here at the University of Wollongong (UOW), Dr Ashkan Masouman is quickly becoming an accomplished academic. Shortly after the official completion of his PhD (on 24th November 2014), Ashkan was awarded ‘Best Conference Paper by a Current or Recent Student’ at the 38th Annual Conference of the Australia and New Zealand Regional Science Association International (ANZRSAI), in Christchurch, New Zealand (1st-14th December 2014).
Conference reviewers were impressed by the unique methodology displayed in the paper, which was titled ‘Application of a Dynamic Inter-sectoral Framework to Estimate Regional Employment’. This paper was developed as part of Ashkan’s PhD, in which he developed an integrated model to investigate the Illawarra economy.
This is the second award Ashkan has received from ANZRSAI, a conference in which he has participated three times. He was awarded ‘Highly Commended’ on the occasion of his first visit.
“I am very excited about receiving this award,” Ashkan said.
Ashkan, who is one of only two students from UOW’s Faculty of Business to receive a scholarship to study with SMART, is looking forward to publishing further papers on his research in 2014.
