Professor Bronwyn Harch has been appointed as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of Queensland (UQ), effective 16 July 2018. We have been fortunate that Bronwyn has been a strong supporter of the statistics discipline at UOW through her position as an honorary Professorial Fellow in NIASRA.
Professor Harch joins UQ from Queensland University of Technology (QUT), where she has been a Professor of Applied Statistical Science and Executive Director of the Institute for Future Environments (IFE) since 2016. IFE is a transdisciplinary research and innovation institute that collaborates with national and international organisations across key sectors to address global challenges. Since July 2017 Professor Harch has also been Research Director of the Food Agility Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) at QUT.
Professor Harch was awarded an industry-funded PhD in statistical science from UQ in 1996. She then went on to hold a number of leadership positions at CSIRO, including Chief of CSIRO’s Division of Computational Informatics, with responsibility for leading 460 research staff across eight capital cities. As Chief of Division she provided high-level scientific leadership to all eleven of CSIRO’S Flagship programs.
Professor Harch is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and a Fellow of the Queensland Academy of the Arts and Sciences. She is a member of the ARC Laureate panel, an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute, and an invited Board member of Innovation and Science Australia.
