The International Congress on the Science and Technology of Ironmaking (ICSTI) 2018 was held from the 25th to 28th September at the magnificent Schloss Schonbrunn in Vienna.
The conference hosted in Austria’s capital brought together a wide range of specialists to share their expertise through a forum for practice and state-of-the-art technology.
The event was attended by Brian Monaghan, Apsara Jayasekara and Xue Feng Dong from UOW.
Brian Monaghan gave a presentation in recycling of in-plant residues titled Characterisation of Self-Sintering Bos Dust.
Apsara Jayasekara gave a presentation in cokemaking titled An Assessment of the Effects of Calcia ad Calcium Aluminate on the Reactivity of the Coke Analogue.
Xue Feng Dong gave a presentation in modelling and simulation in coke and ironmaking titled Prediction of Blast Furnace Hearth Condition: Theory and Practice.
Driven by the deteriorated quality of raw materials, increasing environmental constraints and the continuing demand for energy saving and sustainable ironmaking development, the areas of expertise that were covered throughout the congress were:
- Iron Ore Production and Handling
- Blast Furnace Ironmaking
- Direct Reduction
- Smelting Reduction
- Environmental Control in Coke and Ironmaking
- CO2 Reduction and Energy Saving
- Recycling of In-Plant Residues
- Automation and Digitalisation in Coke and Ironmaking
- Modelling and Simulation in Coke and Ironmaking
Xue Feng Dong said that it was a great experience to meet peers from all over the world from academia, companies and consulting firms.
