The Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences honoured the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) at a recent event, acknowledging their support of UOW over the years.

During the evening EIS mining engineering students presented reports on their site visits to open cut coal mines in the Hunter Valley, metal mines in Western NSW and the West Coast of Tasmania plus the materials engineering students site visits to Bendigo and Melbourne.

During the evening 5 students received their Statements of Attainment for the Underground Coal Induction course, which is a requirement to be able to work in an underground coal mine in NSW or QLD. Michelle Klohs from the NSW Industry Training Programs Unit was thanked for providing the resources that enabled our students to do this course at no cost

In addition to the Executive Dean attending the function, EIS was represented by two Heads of Schools, Gursel Alici and Tim McCarthy, plus Ernst Baafi, (Discipline Advisor, Mining) and Madeleine Du Toit, (Discipline Advisor, Materials) as well as Justine Calleja, Mining Lecturer.
