PhD student Ms Chamindi Jayasuriya is a finalist of the National AGS competition for 2018 Young Geotechnical Professional award on the 13th June sponsored by Engineers Australia and Australian Geomechanics Society.

Chamindi’s research involves the utilization of recycled rubber sheets as energy absorbing elements in heavy haul rail tracks to minimise track degradation.

PhD student Chuhao Liu is a finalist of the national CRC competition on the 14th of May, and Chuhao will talk about the use of plastic grids in heavy haul tracks for reducing lateral movement of ballast and particle breakage.

The strong representation of our students and staff in both competitions held at the national level further demonstrate UOW’s capability in research infrastructure and supervision in the areas of geotechnical engineering.
