Natural hazards and social vulnerability of place: the strength-based approach

National Institute for Applied Statistics Research Australia Seminar Series

March 28 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Speaker: Dr Matt Moore (UOW) Title: R package 'bayesImageS': a case study in Bayesian computation using Rcpp and OpenMP Abstract: There are many approaches to Bayesian computation with intractable likelihoods, including the exchange algorithm, approximate Bayesian computation (ABC), thermodynamic integration, and composite likelihood. These approaches vary in accuracy as well as scalability for datasets of significant size. The Potts model is an example where such methods are required, due to its intractable normalising constant. This model is a type of…

Spatio-Temporal Statistics with R

April 29 @ 8:40 am - April 30 @ 12:30 pm

This 1.5-day workshop is based on the book by Wikle, Zammit-Mangion and Cressie, Spatio-Temporal Statistics with R, published in 2019 by Chapman & Hall/CRC Press and freely available for download from https://spacetimewithr.org. The workshop considers a systematic approach to key quantitative techniques for the analysis of spatio-temporal data, with a particular emphasis on hierarchical (empirical and Bayesian) statistical modelling.
