Towards a More Secure Enterprise IT Landscape: The Human Perspective
Professor Philipp Brune
In the age of Digitalization, Cloud Computing and (industrial) Internet of Things (IoT) Applications, Information Security needs to be increasingly considered on the application and organizational level. Human behavior, either as a system user or as a decision maker in an organization, strongly influences the actual level of IT security in an organization. Therefore, the human perspective needs to be considered in the design and implementation of security solutions. This talk presents results of two selected projects, the first focusing on better understanding security-related decisions in SME (including empirical results from Germany), the second on improving the user experience of user authentication. The results illustrate by example the importance of human perception and behavior for improving Information Security.
Philipp Brune is Professor for Business Information Systems Engineering at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) in Germany since 2008. Before joining HNU has worked for many years in software development, business analysis, project management and IT consulting in the financial services and automotive industries, namely for HypoVereinsbank (then Germany’s second-largest bank) and BMW Group. He holds a PhD in physics and studied Physics and Computer Science at the University of Karlsruhe (now Karlsruhe Institute of Technology – KIT). His research interests include a wide range of topics, from information security and business information systems engineering to mainframe computing, web and mobile development and software engineering education.
