Centre of Financial Mathematics Seminar Series

December 7, 2017 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Speaker

Professor Kusum Deep (Department of Mathematics, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee)

Title

Recent Trends in Nature Inspired Optimization Techniques and their Applications

Abstract

Optimization is the art of selecting “the best” alternative among a given set of options. Optimization problems arise in almost all fields of science, engineering, finance and Industry – in fact in all walks of human activity in which the problem may be mathematically modelled. The traditional optimization techniques are unable to tackle the complexities of real world optimization problems. As a substitute, recently nature inspired optimization techniques (NIOT) are being developed. NIOT are gaining popularity and are considered efficient due to their ability to find a reasonably acceptable solution within a fair amount of time. Some of the methods in this category are: Genetic Algorithms, Particle Swarm Optimization, Artificial Bee Colony, Biogeography Based Optimization, etc. This talk will focus on the state-of-the-art NIOT and will provide an insight in many important non-linear optimization with the help of a number of case studies.
Please let Send Mail Dr. Chi Chung Siu know if you want to join the speaker for lunch at Expresso Warriors before the seminar at 12pm.
