Utilising alternative data sources as auxiliary information in survey estimation; re-thinking established tools in the big data environment
Within the area of Official Statistics there is increasing interest in combining the (carefully designed and controlled) random samples from the correct population of interest with alternative data sources that typically have high coverage but contain systematic coverage (and measurement) errors. In this presentation, we explore the use of estimation strategies developed for measuring census coverage applied to this more general problem, discussing issues of over-coverage, linkage errors, and dependence in coverage errors.
