Bayesian optimisation for decision making in spatial-temporal processes

The importance of spatial-temporal modelling and the benefits it brings to multiple disciplines is well known. However, defining the optimal sequence of decisions that maximises long term reward based on the model is an open problem. Connected to active sampling and reinforcement learning, this talk will explore how the use of Bayesian Optimisation can inform the sequence of decisions over probabilistic models to simultaneously explore and exploit knowledge about the posterior distribution. I will show examples that range from drone monitoring on environmental phenomena, groundwater well optimisation and predictive policing patrolling routes based on predictive models of crime.

After the seminar, NIASRA will sponsor coffee at The Yard for the audiences. All welcome!
