SMART has recently participated in a major APEC Infrastructure Initiative, led by the National Centre for APEC in Seattle, and US National Association of Manufactures on Infrastructure and long term economic development.

CEO, Garry Bowditch was the lead author of the article ‘Augmenting Government Infrastructure Planning and Coordination Mechanisms’ featured in the report was developed in part to serve as a companion to the APEC Business Advisory Council’s (ABAC) Enablers of Infrastructure Investment Checklist, a self-assessment tool intended to help policymakers assess the extent to which their economies are able to attract and harness FDI in infrastructure.

The work has been officially endorsed by the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) and was launched at a luncheon event on the margins of the APEC CEO Summit in Bali. A number of business leaders and government officials participated, including Dennis Nally, Global Chairman, PWC, Penny Pritzker, US Secretary of Commerce, Ed Rapp, USA ABAC Member and Group President, Construction Industries, Caterpillar and Jay Timmons, President and CEO, National Association of Manufacturers (NAM).
