The former head of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Dr Ian Watt, AO, will take the reins as the new Advisory Council Chair of the University of Wollongong’s SMART Infrastructure Facility.
Dr Watt steps into the role previously held by Dr Ken Henry, AC, (Secretary to The Commonwealth Treasury 2001-2011). He served as Secretary of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and Head of the Australian Public Service from 2011 to 2014. Prior to that, he was Secretary of the Departments of Defence; Finance; and Communications, Information Technology and the Arts between 2001 and 2011.
SMART Director Prof Pascal Perez has welcomed Dr Watt’s appointment, “The SMART Advisory Council consists of some of Australia’s most influential infrastructure leaders from industry and government and under Dr Watt’s leadership the Council will ensure that SMART has the best guidance and advice to enable us to continue and grow our role as an international leader in applied infrastructure research.
